Burlington Area

Burlington

Such a cool and beautiful town. I remember visiting there several years ago and for one of the days, all I did was eat cheese, ice cream, and drink beer. Burlington is where Burton Snowboards was formed so you can count on that area being a fan of the mountains and the outdoors. Orvis, the outdoor clothing company, was also started in Burlington too. And let's not forget Ben & Jerrys ice cream. That area is about the outdoors in a big way. With that said, you can expect all sorts of activities and areas designed to truly experience what nature has to offer. When you’re done with nature, come back into town and experience one of my favorite beer scenes. Beer scenes have really been making strides all across the country but Burlington was for sure one of the first on the scene in the craft beer world. One of my favorite things about the beer scene in the Burlington area is the can designs, all of them are works of art. Now that idea of can art has expanded well beyond Burlington and all over the country but I remember visiting there years ago and was just in love with the cans itself. While you are drinking that beer, chow down on some cheese. Vermont is well known for their cheeses and I wholeheartedly agree! Love me some cheese. Anywhere around you in Burlington, you can find great food, great drink, and the great outdoors.

Stowe

Just down the road, you have the iconic northeast resort Stowe. I have yet to ski Stowe but I hear great things about it. It’s hard for me to justify flying all the way out east from the northwest to go skiing. You are essentially bypassing all the resorts in the western half of the US, but I definitely want to make it there one of these winters! Stowe has an impressive 2600 vertical drop with about 116 trails with a good amount of annual snowfall. Those stats rival a lot of resorts out west. Like most northeast skiing though, it can get very cold, that thick cold too. Basically all the cold air coming across the great country of Canada is ready to hit you in the bones. I skied Mont Tremblant up in Quebec one year and it was definitely one of the more frigid days I have skied.

Sunapee

Heading down further south from Burlington you have the endless mountains and forest covering most of Vermont and New Hampshire. There is plenty to do and see all the way through those states. Sunapee is another great little resort for summer and winter activities. Plenty of lakes, trails and rivers scattered all throughout.

Whiteface Mountain

Whiteface mountain should definitely be a stop while you are traveling through the Adirondacks and northern New York state. There is also a great mountain resort there that boasts the largest vertical drop on the east coast which is a very impressive 3,430 feet. That whole area is filled with spots where you can get in touch with nature.
