Montana Area

Missoula

I’ve never been to Missoula, driven around the area, but all I hear is that it's a dream for the outdoor enthusiast. You are located right in the center of many national parks. You have Glacier National park up north, Yellowstone down southeast, Bitterroot down south, and many more. Basically all of Idaho and Montana is just one giant wilderness. In Missoula weather wise, you can expect the typical valley surrounded by mountain ranges in the northern west. That includes cold, snowy winters, beautiful summers, and unpredictable falls and springs.

Big Sky

Just like the name, Big Sky is huge with a lot of variable terrain. Probably some of my hardest runs I have attempted have been at Big Sky but most of that is off the tram. Ever since the passes started happening, the locals have not been happy, understandably with how busy it has gotten. I mean it’s a hell of a mountain. I guess you can’t hide it forever. Unless you’re swimming in the dough you can go next door to the Yellowstone club where I can guarantee you probably won’t see any crowds there. Big Sky does offer everything though for all levels and summers are just as impressive. At Big Sky, you are very close to Yellowstone which can be an easy day trip. There is so much vast land to explore out there, you won’t get bored no matter what the activity is.

Bozeman

Bozeman is another Missoula like town, fairly decent in size and surrounded by endless nature. Not too far from Big Sky and Yellowstone it is a popular place to fly into. It is a fast growing city though since the pandemic and everyone being able to work from home. Well, most of these places are growing at crazy rates. People are really starting to see the benefit of that work life balance and who can blame them. Bozeman is a little more exposed than Missoula in terms of mountain ranges surrounding it but you can expect the same weather. Pack for all seasons basically every season.

Whitefish

Just recently went to Whitefish and really loved it. It’s an old western town that is an entry point for Glacier National Park so a lot of people come through there. Although I have yet to be, I have heard nothing but spectacular things about Glacier National Park. I’ve seen it from the top of Whitefish but that’s it so far! Whitefish is also a great place to live. The mountain Whitefish itself is great with a lot of things to offer. It’s not as big as a lot of the other resorts you will see on this site but it delivers big time on what it has. The place has so much outdoor stuff to do with fishing, boating, hiking, etc. You are also pretty close to the Canadian border so you can easily sneak up to Fernie or other areas in only a couple hour drive. Don’t worry about that border being busy, ain’t no one around that thing.
