Boston

The Northeast has a rich culture of history and large metropolitan areas. Boston definitely checks both of those marks off. I’ve only been to Boston once but had a great time! The old town area was great to grab some pints in and the surrounding areas. There is beautiful architecture and city views laid throughout that entire city. I really enjoyed biking up the Charles River and visiting all the prestigious universities such as Harvard, Cambridge, Boston University, and MIT. There is one thing Boston does well and it is education. With it being such an old, well established city, there are a lot of institutes that are very respected. The museum scene there is amazing too. If you want to fill your head with knowledge, the Boston area has plenty to offer. If you want to fill your head with beer and a rowdy time, Boston is more than happy to oblige to that also. There are plenty of things to get into trouble with in Boston and some areas that definitely don’t let you get off easy. There isn't a huge outdoor scene in Boston since it’s such a large city but the New England area is gorgeous and you can find yourself in that scenery faster than you’ll know.

Marshfield / Beaches

There is one thing that is close and that’s the beaches around the Boston area. All along the south side of Boston you have a ton of beach towns that allow for an active lifestyle. There is incredible New England style seafood throughout the whole area. You also have Plymouth where the Pilgrims landed in 1620 and pass that you have Cape Cod. Cape Cod has a ton of outdoor activities for those who enjoy the wind and the salty air.

Stowe

Leaving Boston and heading North/Northwest you will pass through the two beautiful states of New Hampshire and Vermont on your way to Stowe. It’s amazing how much wilderness is in those states. You would think with how populated the Northeast is, all those humans would creep into those states but nope. Some of the most desolate sections of the Appalachian Trail go through Vermont and New Hampshire. I remember taking the bus from Boston to Burlington and once you left the Boston area, there was nothing but wilderness all the way to Burlington, gorgeous wilderness too! All the way up through those states is an outdoor lover's wet dream.

Sunapee

If you don’t want to drive all the way up to Stowe, Sunapee is a great little resort that offers plenty. There is a lake there too for the water sports people love. Summer time in this area and all through New England is top notch. The lakes scattered throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, New York and Maine are some of my favorite things to visit. The pines and forests around those areas are incredible and don’t forget about the incredible fall colors. It’s a perfect blend of big city Boston life and nature in the north.
